Website - Domain

Updated

A website domain, or domain name, is the unique address that identifies a website on the internet. It's the name you type into a web browser to access a specific website, like "example.com".

Domain names provide a user-friendly way to locate websites instead of using numerical IP addresses. When you enter a domain name, the corresponding website is located and loaded through DNS technology.

Having a domain is important because:

  • a domain helps clients and visitors identify and remember your website easily.

  • a domain adds credibility and a professional image to your online presence.

  • a domain allows clients to reach your website directly without relying on complex IP addresses.

Domains increase your chances of appearing in search engine results, making it easier for potential clients to find you on Google, Edge, or Firefox.

Changing your domain is possible, but it involves purchasing and configuring a new domain. Here's what you need to know:

  1. To change your domain, you need to buy a new domain from a registrar or hosting provider.

  2. After acquiring the new domain, you must configure it to work with your website by updating DNS settings.

Keep in mind that changing your domain affects your website's online presence, and you may need to update links and search engine listings associated with the old domain. Careful planning is recommended to minimise any impact on your website's visibility and accessibility.

Yes, you have to pay for a domain. When you purchase a domain for your website, it requires payment, typically on an annual basis. This means you need to renew and pay for your domain each year to maintain ownership and keep it active. The cost varies depending on the provider.

Domain settings

To configure your domain settings, follow these steps:

  1. Access your website's back office.

  2. Look for the Settings option within the menu.

  3. Select Domain and Email accounts from the Settings menu.

  4. This will take you to the domain settings page, where you can configure various aspects related to your domain, ensuring it's properly set up and functions as desired.

I don't have a domain

If you don't have a domain yet, follow these steps to find and set up a custom domain:

  1. Access your website's back office.

  2. Look for the Settings option within the menu.

  3. Select Domain and Email accounts from the Settings menu.

  4. Select the option Find a custom domain.

5. Search for the domain name you're interested in using the provided search tool.

6. If the domain is available, the payment information will be displayed.

7. However, if the domain is already taken or considered invalid, you'll see a message indicating this. In that case, you'll need to search for another available domain until you find one that's free.

8. Once you've successfully secured an available domain, it will appear in the My Domains section with the status Awaiting payment.

9. Proceed with the payment process, which may take a few minutes to complete.

10. After the payment is processed, you can proceed to install the SSL certificate for your domain.

11. With the SSL certificate installed, your domain is now set up and ready to use.

I have a domain with another provider and I want to keep it there

If you already have a domain with another provider, just select Use an existing domain.

Make changes under your current domain hosting

First, go to your domain hosting and make the following changes:

1. In DNS management, add the following As:

yourdomain.pt A 94.46.20.69

yourdomain.pt A 185.15.20.150

2. Then add a CNAME:

www.yourdomain.pt CNAME yourdomain.pt

where "yourdomain.pt" will be your domain.

Note: you must not have more As records than ours.

Confirm the changes have been done successfully

To confirm the change has been made correctly:

1. Go to Dig (DNS lookup).

2. Search for the domain.

If the As are present as in the image below, it indicates that the configuration has been successfully completed and is considered to be well done and finished.

Note: propagating these changes through the system may take a while.

Make sure the changes are visible in Teya’s system as well

After successfully completing the previous step, go to the back office and under Domain and Email accounts search for your domain. It should show up automatically on the My Domains list.

Install the SSL certificate

If all the previous steps have been completed successfully, the final task is to register the SSL certificate. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Look for the three-dot menu icon associated with your domain.

  2. Click on the three dots to access the menu.

  3. From the menu options that appear, select Install SSL certificate.

  4. This action will initiate the process of registering the SSL certificate.

Important: during this process, be especially careful when changing DNS. In case of any misconfiguration, your website may stop functioning properly.
