Understanding 3-D Secure
3-D Secure is an extra verification step used for online card Payments. It allows the cardholder’s bank to confirm their identity before the Payment is completed. Teya’s online Payment solutions include built-in 3-D Secure to support a safe checkout experience.
How the 3-D Secure check works
3-D Secure uses intelligence and checkout signals to assess the risk of a transaction. Not every Payment will require a visible verification step. The exact experience depends on the bank, the transaction details, and the signals seen during checkout.
A 3-D Secure check happens in one of two ways:
- Frictionless flow: The bank verifies the Payment in the background. The customer journey remains smooth and they do not need to take any extra action.
- Challenge flow: The customer must complete a short verification step to confirm the Payment.
If a challenge flow is required, the bank may ask the customer to:
- Approve the Payment in their mobile banking app.
- Enter a one-time code sent to their device.
- Use Face ID, a fingerprint, or another device verification method.
