Tap to Pay allows you to accept contactless Payments directly on your smartphone using the Teya App. Your phone works as a secure payment terminal, enabling you to accept physical cards and digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay without a separate Card Machine.
Device requirements
To use Tap to Pay, your device must meet the following software and hardware requirements.
- Model: iPhone XS or newer.
- Operating System: iOS 18.3.1 or later.
- Connectivity: Stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
- Operating System: Android 12 or later.
- Hardware: NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled. If Google Wallet or Google Pay works on your phone, your device likely has NFC enabled.
- Connectivity: Stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
Preparing your device
Before you start selling, ensure your phone is secure and ready to process Payments.
- Security: Enable a passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, or Android screen lock.
- Date and time: Set your device to update date and time automatically.
- Device status: Ensure your phone is not rooted and is not in developer mode.
- Physical obstructions: If your phone case holds physical cards, remove them. This prevents interference or accidental charges to your own cards.
- Activation: Check that Tap to Pay is set up and showing as active in the Teya App.
How to take a Payment
Follow these steps to process a transaction securely.
- Open the Teya App and go to Sell.
- Select Tap to Pay on iPhone or Tap to Pay on Android.
- Enter the Payment amount and confirm the total with your customer.
- Tap Charge.
- Present your phone to the customer. Ask them to hold their card or device flat against the contactless area on your phone.
- Hold steady: Keep your phone still until the transaction finishes.
- If a PIN is required:
- A secure PIN entry screen will appear automatically.
- Hand your phone to the customer so they can enter their PIN.
- Never ask for the PIN or enter it on the customer’s behalf.
- Wait for the confirmation screen to ensure the Payment is complete.
If the customer uses a digital wallet, they must unlock their device before tapping.
Confirming the Payment is complete
Always verify the transaction status before handing over goods. A Payment is successful only when:
- The Teya App displays an Approved message or a confirmation tick.
- The app returns you to the receipt screen.
If you do not see the success screen, check your transaction history in the Teya App to confirm the status before trying the Payment again.
Best practice for reliable Tap to Pay payments
- Battery life: Keep your phone battery above 20% to prevent interruptions.
- Updates: Keep your phone’s operating system and the Teya App updated to the latest versions.
- Receipts: Always offer to send a receipt via email or text for the customer's records.
