Connect your Shopify store to Teya

Set up the Teya plugin on your Shopify store to accept online transactions safely and easily. This guide explains how to install the plugin, configure your settings, and test your first Payment so you can start processing orders.

Getting ready

Before you start: You need a few things to complete the setup.

  • A Shopify store with admin access.

  • A Teya Account with the Online Payments subscription.

  • A Teya ID with Owner or Admin access on your e-commerce store.

Installing the plugin

Connect your Shopify store to Teya in a few quick steps. For a general overview of how the plugin works, see here.

  1. Go to the Teya Payments app page on the Shopify App Store.

  2. Click Add app, then click Install app. Sign in to Shopify if prompted.

  3. Wait for the plugin settings to open automatically, then click Connect to Teya.

  4. Sign in with your Teya ID.

  5. Select your e-commerce store from the list and confirm your choice.

  6. Return to the Shopify plugin settings and ensure Enable Teya Payment is ticked.

The plugin is now connected. Your customers will be redirected to Teya's secure checkout when they place an order. Successful orders will be processed for next-day Business Day Settlements.

Configuring your settings

Once connected, you can adjust how the plugin behaves to suit your business needs.

Redirect behaviour

Choose what happens after a customer completes a Payment.

  • Show the Teya confirmation page: The customer sees a confirmation screen before returning to your store. This is recommended for trust and transparency.

  • Send the customer straight to your Shopify success page: The customer skips the confirmation screen. This provides a faster checkout with fewer clicks.

Email notifications

Next step: Add an email address to your settings to receive a notification each time a successful Payment comes through.

Customising your checkout

Add your logo, terms and conditions, privacy policy, and a merchant note to your checkout. You manage these options from your Teya Portal Settings. The customisation you apply here also updates your Pay by Link and any custom integrations.

Taking your first Payment

Test the connection to ensure the customer experience matches your expectations.

  1. Create a test order on your Shopify store.

  2. Process a small Payment. Test with £0.01 if your currency allows it.

  3. Check that the checkout flow works correctly.

  4. Refund the test transaction to complete the test.

Refunding from your Shopify admin

When you refund an order in Shopify, the funds flow back to Teya automatically.

  1. Open your Shopify admin dashboard.

  2. Find the relevant order in the Orders section.

  3. Click Refund.

  4. Enter the required amount. You can process full or partial refunds.

  5. Confirm the refund.

Refunds reach the customer's account in five to ten working days. This timeline depends on their bank.

What do my customers see?

Customers shop on your Shopify store as usual. When they proceed to checkout, the following steps occur:

  1. They are redirected to Teya's secure payment page.

  2. They pay using a consumer debit card, consumer credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Wallet.

  3. They see a confirmation screen, and then return to your Shopify success page.
