The Teya Catalogue is your point of sale, offering a simple and complete way to manage your items, process a Payment, and track your sales. This guide explains how the Catalogue works, who it is designed for, and what to expect during your first-time setup.
What is the Teya Catalogue?
The Catalogue holds the items you sell and tracks what is selling and how much VAT you owe. It lives in two apps: the Teya Payment app on your Card Machine, and the Teya App, which you can download to your own iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
Everything you change syncs automatically across your Card Machine, the Teya App on every device, and the Business Portal on the web.
Who the Catalogue is for
The Teya Catalogue is built for small and independent businesses that want a complete till without the cost or complexity of a traditional point of sale. It works well for:
- Food and drink: Cafés, coffee shops, takeaways, and casual eateries that need categories, variants, modifiers, and different VAT rates for eat-in and takeaway orders.
- Services: Salons, barbers, and similar businesses ringing up treatments and add-ons.
- On the move: Market traders, food trucks, and pop-ups that want to sell from a phone or tablet.
- Retail: Independent and convenience shops with a manageable range of items.
Key features
With the Teya Catalogue, you can:
- Add items individually or import a whole menu in seconds using the AI assistant to scan a PDF, CSV, or photo.
- Group items into categories so they are easy to find when selling.
- Set up variants (for example: small, medium, large) and modifiers (for example: extra shot, oat milk).
- Apply the right VAT rate to each item automatically.
- Process a Payment using your Card Machine or by connecting the Teya App on a tablet to your Card Machine.
- Change prices or update your menu in seconds across all your devices.
Your first time in the Catalogue
When you open the Catalogue for the first time, a short setup wizard will walk you through the choices that affect how your till behaves. The wizard will ask you to:
- Pick how you will build your menu: You can use the AI assistant to extract items, prices, and categories from an uploaded file, or you can create your menu manually by adding items one by one.
- Choose your order types: If you sell food or drink, you will be asked if you offer eat-in, takeaway, or both. The right VAT rate will then apply automatically per order type. If you are not in hospitality, you can skip this step.
- Choose whether to track VAT: If your business is VAT-registered, turn on VAT tracking. Teya will apply your chosen rates to every sale and produce VAT reports for your returns. If you are not VAT-registered, leave this off.
You can revisit any of these choices at any time from Catalogue → Settings.
