Set up Teya Catalogue hardware

Catalogue works on a Teya Card Machine and through the Teya App on your own iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet. If you want a dedicated counter setup, you can buy Teya hardware separately or as a kit: a tablet, a stand, and an order-ticket printer.

This article explains the available hardware and how to set it up. Once your tablet is ready, using Catalogue works in the same way as on other supported devices.

Choose your Catalogue setup

You do not have to buy a Teya tablet to use Catalogue. You can use:

  • Your Teya Card Machine.
  • Your own iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet through the Teya App.
  • A Teya tablet with the Teya tablet stand and Epson printer.

The Teya hardware items are also available separately, so you can buy only the pieces you need.

Tablets

You can choose from two Teya tablets:

Tablet Key details
iPad 11" (A16) 11-inch Liquid Retina display, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C charging, and up to 10 hours of battery life. Comes in Silver and weighs 477 g.
Lenovo Tab 10.1" 10.1-inch Full HD+ display, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C charging, and Android 14 or later. MediaTek Helio G85 processor, 4 GB memory, and 64 GB storage, expandable with a microSD card. Comes in Luna Grey and weighs about 425 g.

Both tablets:

  • Run the full Teya App with Catalogue.
  • Fit the Teya tablet stand.
  • Do not have NFC.

Important: The Teya tablets cannot take Tap to Pay on the tablet itself. To take card payments from a tablet, pair the Teya App with a Teya Card Machine.

Teya tablet stand

The wooden Teya tablet stand holds either tablet in landscape mode, which is the layout Catalogue uses on a tablet. The tablet attaches to the stand magnetically, so you can remove it quickly when needed.

Epson TM-m30III printer

The Epson TM-m30III is a thermal printer for Catalogue order tickets. It can print tickets for your kitchen or bar using standard 80 mm thermal paper rolls.

It prints up to 300 mm a second and has a near-end paper sensor and a de-curling mechanism, so tickets come out flat. It is splash-resistant with an antibacterial finish. It measures 127 × 127 × 130 mm, weighs 1.3 kg, and is black.

The printer includes:

  • The printer.
  • A power adapter and cable.
  • A starter paper roll.

It connects by USB or by a network cable. Its USB-C port can also charge a tablet at the same time (18 W).

Cash drawer

Teya does not sell a cash drawer. Any standard 12 V RJ12 cash drawer plugs into the Epson printer and opens automatically on cash sales. We recommend the Tera 415A.

Set up your tablet

The iPad and Lenovo tablet use the same Catalogue setup process.

1. Connect the tablet to Wi-Fi

Turn on the tablet and follow the on-screen setup instructions.

You need:

  • An Apple Account to download the Teya App on an iPad.
  • A Google account to download the Teya App on a Lenovo tablet.

If you do not have the required account, you can create one during the tablet setup.

2. Install the Teya App

Download the Teya App from:

  • The App Store on an iPad.
  • Google Play on a Lenovo tablet.

You can search for “Teya” or scan the code on the leaflet included with the tablet.

Open the Teya App and sign in with your Teya ID.

3. Open Catalogue

In the Teya App:

  1. Tap Sell.
  2. Switch to Catalogue.
  3. Follow the setup wizard if this is your first time using Catalogue.

You can add your menu in any of these ways:

  • Import it from a photo.
  • Import it from a PDF.
  • Import it from a CSV file.
  • Add items individually.

You can start selling when your first item is added.

If you already use Catalogue on another device, your menu appears when you sign in. You do not need to import it again.

Use the Teya tablet stand

  1. Place the stand on a flat counter.
  2. Position the tablet towards you, or towards the customer if you want to show them the screen.
  3. Place the tablet on the magnetic mount.

Charging and stability tips

  • Keep the tablet connected to power during service using its USB-C cable.
  • If the Epson printer is next to the tablet, you can charge the tablet from the printer’s USB-C port instead of using a separate plug.
  • If the stand moves on a very smooth surface, place a rubber mat underneath it.
  • To take an order away from the counter, lift the tablet off. The magnets release with a gentle pull. Set it back on the mount when you are done.

Take card payments from your tablet

The Teya tablets do not have NFC, so they cannot take Tap to Pay directly.

To take a card payment:

  1. Add the sale on the tablet.
  2. Tap Charge.
  3. The total is sent to the paired Teya Card Machine.
  4. The customer taps, inserts, or swipes their card on the Card Machine.
  5. The receipt prints from the Card Machine.

You need a Teya Card Machine to take card payments alongside the tablet. You can use Cash and Other payment types on the tablet without a Card Machine.

Important: Tap to Pay on the device is available on iPhones and NFC-equipped Android phones, but not on the Teya tablets described in this article.

Set up the Epson printer

1. Load the paper

  1. Open the printer cover.
  2. Place the paper roll inside.
  3. Close the cover.
  4. Connect the power adapter and switch on the printer.

Use a standard 80 mm thermal receipt roll when you need more paper.

2. Connect the printer

You can connect the printer in either of these ways:

  • Connect it by USB to your tablet or Card Machine.
  • Connect it by network cable directly to your router.

Do not connect it through a switch, extender, or guest network.

3. Add the printer in Catalogue

On your tablet or Card Machine:

  1. Open Catalogue and tap the settings icon.
  2. Tap Printers.
  3. Tap Add printer.
  4. Select the printer.
  5. Give it a name that your team will recognise, such as Kitchen or Bar.
  6. Select the categories that should print on this printer.
  7. Tap Connect.

Orders containing items from the selected categories print on the printer. Customer receipts continue to print from the Card Machine.

Add a cash drawer

Catalogue opens a cash drawer through the Epson printer. The drawer plugs into the printer, and the printer sends the signal to open it. You do not need a separate power supply.

Which drawer to buy

Any drawer with a 12 V RJ12 connection works with the Epson TM-m30III. We recommend the Tera 415A, a 16-inch steel drawer with 5 note and 8 coin compartments, available from Amazon UK: Tera Cash Drawer 415A.

It comes with the RJ12 cable and six keys, and opens from Catalogue or with the key. It measures 41.5 cm square and 11.5 cm high, so check that it fits under or beside your counter. Tera also sells a 13-inch version and an under-counter mounting bracket.

Do not use a USB or Bluetooth drawer, or a drawer with its own power adapter. These do not open from Catalogue.

Connect the drawer

  1. Place the drawer where it can open fully without hitting anything.
  2. Plug one end of the RJ12 cable into the socket on the back of the drawer.
  3. Plug the other end into the socket on the back of the Epson printer marked DK. Do not use the network socket. The plug fits, but the drawer will not open.
  4. Turn the drawer key to the unlocked position and leave it there. A locked drawer stays shut.
  5. Make sure the printer is switched on and added in Catalogue. The drawer only opens while the printer is on and connected.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to buy a Teya tablet?

No. You can use Catalogue on your Teya Card Machine or on your own iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet through the Teya App.

Can I buy the printer or stand separately?

Yes. Each item is available separately or as part of a kit.

Do I own the hardware, or is it rented?

You own it. Unlike a Teya Card Machine, the tablet, stand, and printer are bought outright and are yours to keep.

Will the stand fit my own tablet?

The Teya tablet stand is made for the iPad 11" and the Lenovo Tab 10.1". Other tablets of a similar size may sit on it, but we cannot guarantee the fit or the magnetic hold.

Can I take Tap to Pay on a Teya tablet?

No. The Teya tablets do not have NFC. Pair the Teya App with a Teya Card Machine to take card payments.

The Teya App says that my tablet is not supported. What should I do?

Update the tablet and the Teya App, then try again.

On an iPad:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Software Update.

On a Lenovo tablet:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Tap System update.

Then update the Teya App from the App Store or Google Play.

Someone else set up the tablet and I cannot sign in. What should I do?

The Teya App uses your Teya ID, which is the same email address and password used for the Business Portal.

If you do not know your password:

  • Tap Forgot password on the sign-in screen.
  • Ask the person who manages your Teya Account.

Your menu and settings are linked to your Teya Account, not the tablet. When you sign in on another device, your menu and settings are available there.
