Before you start
Ensure your Card Machine is ready for use:
- Connection: Check that the device is connected to Wi-Fi (recommended for speed) or mobile data.
- Setup: Ensure the device is linked to the correct store and Account.
- Battery: Keep the device charged with a battery buffer before busy trading periods.
How to take a Payment

Enter the amount
- On the main screen, use the keypad to type the Payment amount.
- Alternatively, use the calculator function to add up multiple items.
- Check the total is correct.
- Tap the Charge button
Present the card
Ask the customer to pay using their preferred method.
- Contactless (Tap): Ask the customer to tap their card or mobile wallet (like Apple Pay or Google Pay) on the contactless symbol at the top of the Card Machine. They must hold it there until the machine beeps.
- Chip and PIN (Insert): Ask the customer to insert their card into the slot. They must enter their PIN on the keypad and keep the card inserted until the screen confirms the result.
Process the transaction
Once the card is read, the Card Machine will contact the customer's bank for authorisation.
- PIN Entry: The customer may be asked to enter their PIN or confirm the transaction on their mobile device.
- Confirmation: Do not remove the card or reset the screen until a clear Approved or Declined message appears.
Issue a receipt
After a successful Payment, you can provide a receipt.
- Customer receipt: The screen will offer a receipt option. Depending on your settings, this may print automatically or require you to tap Print.
- Merchant receipt: By default, your receipts do not print automatically to save paper. You can view them on the device history or change your settings to print them automatically.
